Science, Speaking, and Stupid

Science:
Today I went to St. Pauls school in Pocahontas to judge Science Fair Projects all day. I judged collections and models (K-3 grade) and it was the cutest thing in the world. The kids had great projects and they were so cute when they were interviewed about their projects. It was very tired after it, but I was given 10 dollars for lunch, so I have no complaints.

Speaking:
My aunt works at St. Pauls as the religion teacher, so after I was finished judging, I went to visit her. Well she was speaking about holiness to the next class, and so she was like why don't you stay and speak to the kids when they come in. I was thinking "Uhhh...what? How did I get suckered into this?" Well, I kind of strayed off the path because she asked me to tell them how I lived for God. So I told them that I am myself. That I don't let other people tell me who I am, I live for who God tells me I am. I told them not to get suckered into peer pressure. No matter what other people may think of you or what the cool thing is, God made you who you are. My aunt later added that I wear pink if I feel like it on a rainy day, or sing in the middle of a crowd. She said that I lived my life for the fullest and was hardly ever down. So we kind of just talked about that, and God got me through it.

Stupid:
Ok, I seriously think that I am losing my mind. I had a coupon for tanning, so I was looking it over and noticed the expiration date. It was February 29, 2008. (Yes, the 29th since it is a leap year) Anyway, I was like oh man, this has already expired, but then I was like, I just got this coupon, how can it expire already. So I was like well maybe they won't notice and I'll be able to tan anyways. So I called my mom to ask her what she thought and I read her the date and as soon as I read her the date, it dawned on me that 2008 is next year. I never thought that I would do anything that would get the turkey award, but by the looks of things, I might be wrong.

Well, until we meet again, Adieu.

Can Anyone Say Turkey of the Year?

Ok, so I am not ditzy, or blonde, or easily fooled. I hardly every have a dumb moment. I think yesterday was a whole years worth of "DUH" moments.

#1: My air conditioner in my room was not working. On these hot days, I was miserable. So I put in a maintenance request with my RA. When I got in my room later I could tell that someone had been there and my room was like an ice box (thank you Jesus.) Well I looked at my air conditioner and the condition of my room and it didn't look like they had done anything. Except for one little thing. One of my knobs was in a different spot. My air conditioner was never broke. I had it on the wrong setting the whole time. And the worst part and most embarrassing is that I had the bra from the hall party (ya know the granny one) hanging from my lofted bed as a joke. I had forgotten about it, so the maintenance men had a surprise.

#2: At lunch a friend of mine told me that there was a scientific study out that Katy's that spell their name with a "y" are more likely to be weird and less intelligent that "Katie's" I believed him. After the fact, I thought to myself, that was the most stupid thing in the world to believe. What was I thinking?

#3: I got some wall sconces (for you men-sconces are decorations for the wall) over the break. Well I was going to hang them up in my room yesterday, so I got hammer and nails and held the sconces where I wanted them, put the nails through the sconces and started hammering. I finished the first one when my best friend Jordan came in and was like, why don't you just nail a nail in first and then hang the sconce. HERE"S YOUR SIGN! And this is coming from one of the people that I know that lacks common sense the most. Plus she is really bad at anything mechanical or anything manly. She is a huge girly girl. So anyway, I normally would have done it the second way, I was just having a huge stupid day.

Well, unitl we meet again, Adieu.

Spring Break Happenings

*Before I get into my spring break, I noticed that Laura shared a limerick with everyone a couple of blogs ago. For one of my classes I had to write different kinds of poetry as well. One of those was a limerick so I thought I would share mine, too.

Guys don't make passes
With girl in glasses
Goodbye spectacles, don't stay
Not because of boys, no way
But because you're hitting my eyelashes

*So here is my spring break:
Sunday after church Dan and I headed to St. Louis to visit my daddy and brother. Roman was in from the Coast Guard, so that was great that I was on my spring break to see him. Sunday we just hung out and played games. My aunt Kako came over and brought us Imo's pizza. If you have never had Imo's pizza you must try it once in your lifetime. It originated in STL, so you have to get it there.
*Now Monday Dad, Roman, Dan and I went and visited Billy at Washington University. While Bill was still in class my dad game us a "tour." Really all he did was read the names of the buildings off the nameplates. He thought we were oblivious to this, but we knew exactly what he was doing. The campus was beautiful and old. I would love to go to that college just for histories sake. Bill was a fine tour guide, except that he didn't know anything about his college. He only knew where the library and the food was. But we had a good time. After that we went to a little bookstore in O'Fallon that I found. I found many books that I had been wanting and was very happy about my finds. That is a "must visit" every time I visit my dad now. That night we played games again and my little cousin came over and we played with him. His name is Braden and he is hilarious.
*We came home on Tuesday and stopped at a few flea markets on the way home. We stopped at this one and it was very creepy. I couldn't tell whether the owner was a man or a woman. I said man, but Dan swore he/she was a woman. I would hate to be that person. I wouldn't want people to wander about what gender I was.
*Wednesday it was such a nice day, so Roman and his friend Tommy and my step-sister (Jodi-12) and I went fishing in our neighbors pond. I caught 2 and Roman caught 2. The boys left early, but Jodi and I sat down at the pond and chatted and discussed books, so it was nice for us to get bonding time. That night Roman and Tommy went to Black River by our house and camped in the bank of the river. I later had the idea of going down and scaring them. So Jodi and I got in the back of the truck and mom drove us down to the bridge. We jumped out and walked down under the bridge and towards the boys. We had to walk in this field to get to them and then through woods. We finally made it to them and hour later, because of the darkness and terrain. We crouched by the bank and spied on them for a minute. To our horror Tommy had his dog, so he sniffed us out and started barking. So Tommy was like, I'll go check what's up there. As soon as he started up the bank, we screamed, and scared them to death! It was quite humorous. So that was a nice little adventure for us.
*Thursday, Mom, Jodi and I went to Hardy and went to flea markets. I found a lot of books and we had a great day together.
*Friday Dan and I took Katelynn and Ashlynn (his nieces) to McDonald's and then took them to the Doniphan city park for a picnic and to play for a bit. That afternoon, we found a snake by Dan's carport. He was getting ready to let me out of the vehicle and spotted it. I refused to get out because I despise snakes, so he went and got the BB gun and shot it. I told him to shoot it again because I didn't think it was dead. Well, he didn't and when we came back a little later, it had crawled off. I found it a couple of feet away. To make sure it was dead, I poked it with a stick and it struck at me. I FREAKED! I started screaming and half cry-laughing. I was hysterical. I was screaming "Dan kill it, I told you it wasn't dead, kill it!" He did and that was the end the snake. That night hometown Zeros had a gig at Lonestar school for the Special Olympics fundraiser. We were all worried at first as to how these kids would like them. But as soon as they walked in the door they started screaming. They sold 100 dollars worth of merch. The kids LOVED THEM. It was cute and funny at the same time because they went CRAZY. We could hear them screaming over the music. Here is a comment that one of the students left of hTZ's Myspace:
"i think i stood in front of Dan the whole time!!! he only sang every once in a while but when he did the words came out like a poem!!!! it was just so uhh i can't explain it i thought about just sitting down there and staring at him while everyone else listened to the music!!! "
*I thought this was the funniest thing I have ever read in my whole life.
*Another thing that happened Friday is that my brother got in a wreck. He had to get a new car. He got another grand prix. He's OK, but they went to the hospital just in case.
*Saturday my family went to the auction in Corning.
*Another story I have is that my dad found 4 baby rabbits in his back yard and the mama was on the ground without a head, so he found one of the babies alive and fed it and kept it warm for 3 days, but it died last night, so he is very sad.
*Now just to let you all know-this is a very long blog, so I am not going to proof read it. If there is any mistakes, my apologies.
*Well, until we meet again, Adieu.

Pi Day and Other Type News.

Yesterday was Pi (3.14) day. It was wonderful. Dan and I's math teacher brought us pizza pie for class. It was amazing. This is going to be one of my new favorite holidays.

One more day and we get spring break! I plan on going to my dads Monday. Roman is coming in, so we are going to get to visit with family!

Yesterday Dan and I had a class (Arkansas History) at the Fire School behind our school. Well, it was such a nice day outside that we thought we would ride our bikes. The only thing on the agenda was to take a test and then leave. Well I got done about an hour before Dan. I waited outside and noticed huge dark clouds in the distance and thought I'd warn Dan to hurry up. Well we beat the rain in the knick of time. I have a bike basket on my bike and I felt like the Wizard of Oz, trying to beat the rain and riding as fast as we could.

I have a praise. I lost my wallet yesterday with my school ID, driver's license, lunch card, 60+ dollars, my jump drive, room heys, my whistle and free movie coupons in it. I know the last two seem like the most important thing to all of you too. Well anyway, I found it today. Someone turned it in and everything was there. Thank you Jesus!

Well, until we meet again, Adieu.

One Good One Bad

I have two things to say today. One is good and one is bad.

First the bad news: Last night I Daniel overheard Roman's (my brother) girlfriend saying that she was going to break up with him. I know this is very personal, but it really breaks my heart. He is in the Coast Guard waiting to come home (he comes home next week) to see Katherine (his girlfriend) and the week before he comes home she breaks his heart. He asked me today what was going on with her, and I had to be honest and tell him what she had said. Poor thing. He just had a birthday as well. He turned 19. So I just feel really bad for him. Please be praying for him.

Now the good topic. Which isn't really news or anything. If anyone wants a light read, but an excellent read, The Man Who Loved Clowns, is one of the best books I've ever read. The author is June Rae Wood and she is a Missouri writer. She mentions Silver Dollar City in her book, and other places in Missouri. The story made me cry about 3 times and I bawled at the end. It's about a girl who's uncle has Down Syndrome. PLEASE READ THIS!! IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! (I was thinking that Hattie and Michala would probably really like it.) But I enjoyed it as well, so older people can read it.

So that is all for now...weekend plans are to go to Daniels show tonight at the Well, then go to my cabin on Eleven Point and then maybe go to the auction with my parents, oh yes, and the homework that is ever hanging over my shoulder.

Well, until we meet again, Adieu.

What's happening at Williams?

Here is a look at my fabulous week:

Monday: We are having Williams Idol this week and today was the first day. There were 14 contestants. 7 made it to the finals. Like the real American Idol, we had a few duds and funny ones to entertain.

Tuesday: Tonight was Collide. This is a weekly service led by students. Tonight Wade Drury spoke and he talked about discipline in our everyday lives and our spiritual lives. He told us to find time each day to have quiet time with the Lord.

Wednesday: Today I got my phone back. My brother sent the check too late, so my cell phone was shut off for a few days. After an agonizing time apart from my phone, I am able to use it again. Today I was also abducted into the STD club...actually I was inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta club...It is an English club that I had to be invited into to join. We had a ceremony in a room by the cafeteria and it was catered by the lunch ladies. The meal was surprisingly good. What I don't understand is that meals taste good on special occasions, but why can't they be good all of the time? Then we had to say some pledge stuff, get our picture taken for the paper, and sign a book.
Today was such a nice day that Dan and I took a bike ride around campus and played in the park by married housing.
At 10:00 P.M. we had a hall party. We played human Clue. Each of us were the names of the suspects and we picked murder weapons such as an ethernet cord, a stiletto, and a stapler. Then we used our dorm rooms for rooms where the victim was murdered. Then we had a cardboard box for the die and we used the square tiles in our hall as places to move. I won this game, because it went so long that I just made a guess to get it over with. For winning I got a free room check. The next game was Slingshot Stuff. Our RA bought huge granny braziers at the Williams garage sale last weekend and we used those to slingshot an eraser down the hall. The winner got a free room check. The third game is questionable whether or not I should put it on here, so if you want to know just ask me.

Thursday: Tonight is the last night of Williams Idol.

Well, until we meet again, Adieu.

Praxis Poem

A couple of Friday's ago Dan and I went to Jonesboro so he could take the Praxis. While I sat and waited on him I thought that I would write a poem for my creative writing class. This is what the result was:

Am I in a Murder Movie?

We come to the Chickasaw building.
Just like it says on the paper. As we
make our way through the piercing
February wind, we open the double doors.
It is vacant, but it looks as if the law
was after them and they all moved out in a
days time. The lights are on, so we walk
through. Room 403 is our destination.
We step onto the rickety elevator with
caution; not sure if it even works. Button
number four is pressed and we wait
silently with wide eyes wondering if at any
moment the elevator will either get stuck
or go else go crashing down to our deaths.
The 4th floor is much like the first with
bright florescent lights overhead. We hear
no sounds and see no one. We walk around
the fourth floor looking for our destination.
We finally find it. It has to be the only office
still open in the entire building. But it looks as
if they can pack up and move at any second,
perhaps even while we are waiting. I am told to
go into the waiting room across the hall. I
step into a room designed like the 60’s. Brown
paneling lines the walls. Bright orange shaggy
chairs, brown couches, an old Zenith television,
and orange lamp, and authentic stove, cabinets, and
refrigerator from the 60’s give decoration for the
room. All I hear is the humming of the refrigerator.
Am I in a murder movie?
I sit; wondering if my companion is being
chopped up into a million pieces as I wait in
the waiting room for my turn.
*
Well, until we meet again, Adieu.
